LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND THE PRESIDENT

The Science Center is on the cusp of a transformative change that will have a lasting impact on our organization and Greater Philadelphia’s role as a world-class innovation hub.

As we embark on a partnership with Wexford Science & Technology, a BioMed Realty company, that will significantly increase our physical footprint and our innovation impact, this Annual Review provides us with the opportunity to reexamine the successes that have enabled the growth of our organization.

The work the Science Center has done over the past 52 years supporting startups from idea to IPO has laid the foundation for this new chapter of our story. Over the past year, we’ve continued our mission to incubate startups, convene entrepreneurs, commercialize technologies and help young students explore STEM careers.

Our campus is bookended by our oldest building at 3401 Market, now home to the new collaborative workspace ic@3401, and our newest building at 3737 Market, a 13-story tower that is home to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center supporting orthopedics and outpatient care. In between these bookends is a thriving innovation community. The entrepreneurs and scientists that fill the Science Center are looking toward the future as they develop technologies and launch companies that will impact lives. We’re right there with them.

Growing our brand and campus in concert with the growth of University City is a logical and welcome progression of our efforts to create and operate programs that support scientists, entrepreneurs and companies throughout the region. Our strong partnership with Wexford enables us to take a proactive and engaged approach to the changing landscape of Philadelphia’s fastest-growing innovation neighborhood.

Our history is rich and our path forward is filled with promise—for the Science Center, for our resident entrepreneurs and innovators—and for Greater Philadelphia’s innovation community. Please join us on our journey.
